Among all the InfoVis contests and challenges existing nowadays, the VAST challenge is the most interesting and relevant to me.
Started in 2006 (if I’m not wrong) by Georges Grinstein (whom I had the honor to have in my PhD committee) and Catherine Plaisant,
two salient researchers in InfoVis and Visual Analytics, this contest is part of the IEEE Conference on Visual Analytics Science and Technology, which is organized in the context of the VisWeek, “the premier forum for advances in scientific and information visualization”. This yearly challenge aims at “advancing Visual Analytics Evaluation through Competitions”. This is, provide a wide set of resources to improve the evaluation of visual analytics techniques.
This year’s contest is already online, and it focuses on big data as well as cyber security. I encourage all of you who are keen enough to face such an interesting challenge!
You can check previous VAST challenge as well as some of the presented solutions at their websites. I’m sure their are a big resource of datasets and inspiring visual analytics solutions.
